Last Call for Christmas Orders! ...And a sneak peak at items soon to be released!

Due to the multiple requests for last minute orders, I have moved the 'last call' date to December 18th.  This date is the absolute LAST day to place an order and receive in time for Christmas, and is subject to a $5 charge for the increase in shipping/expedited processing time that must be purchased along with the item.

So, happy shopping for the final 2 days! :)

Following the Last Call date, I will be out of town office December 23 - December 29th, so orders during this time will not begin processing until December 30th.

Now for a sneak peak of some upcoming items (these were made as Christmas gifts for my friends and family and will soon be added to the shop for others to enjoy as well!)

(keep in mind these were pictures taken mid-production on most of these items...better pictures of the final products will be up soon! :) )

Surfer's Coffee Mug - Soon to be listed for sale at a very affordable price, this hand painted mug is decorated with a variety of colorful surfboards along with various sayings including 'hang ten, eat. sleep. surf, and surfs up.'  As always customizations are welcome!

Cherry Blossom Wine Glass - Soon be listed for $14.00 this hand painted wine glass is designed to symbolize the beauty of a cherry blossom tree in full bloom! Not a fan of the pink/white flowers? Flowers can be customized to any color you'd like, names added, etc!

Cherry Blossom Wine Balance - What better to hold your wine bottle with when drinking from your cherry blossom wine glass, then a cherry blossom wine balance! (Note: This picture was mid-way thru the process, paint was still being applied, needed to dry and the entire board needing to be sprayed with its final coat - pictures to follow with the finished board!) This item as well will soon be listed on the shop! Colors on this as well may be changed to your liking!

More products to follow this week as we finish up Christmas orders as well as some Christmas gift projects my husband and I have been working on - looking forward to sharing them with you!

DIY No Sew Fleece Blanket

This year for Christmas, my husband and I have taken on the somewhat harder then it sounds task of hand making gifts for the majority of the family.  Between our parents, siblings, grandparents, etc. Almost everyone is getting at least one thing that was made by us.  Generally speaking, these gifts are not a whole lot less in cost to us then what we would've spent in a store (although we have been able to stretch our dollar further in the sense of getting much higher quality products for our dollar then we would've picking it up off the shelf,) and if you factor in the time we've spent working on them, they've probably cost us quite a bit more then gifts we've gifted in the past - but it's been worth it and we feel that they will be a big hit!

Of course a few family/friends will be receiving wine glasses or ornaments from my etsy shop however we've actually used this Christmas gift idea as an opportunity to come up with new items that could also be added to the shop. One example of this would be the wooden balancing wine holder we've created. Crafted by my husband John, painted by me, and later sprayed with a finishing coat by John, this fun item made of Birch wood is available in my shop for $19.99 and is able to balance a full bottle of wine on your table.  This item makes for a great display and/or conversation starter!  Keep an eye out this week as more variations (different wood styles, different paint, etc.) will be made available as they are currently receiving their finishing touches today! Also remember as with everything, the wine balance can be custom painted to your liking at no additional charge - simply message me before ordering!

We've also created some wooden plaque letter boards of which I will post pictures later (they're still in the making...hopefully to be finished this week as well) but they are looking absolutely beautiful, are made of high quality wood as well, and will most definitely be added to the shop upon completion.

Another item we have come up with of which you can either order here, (or for sports/licensed material order here) or follow the steps below to create yourself, is a no-sew fleece blanket.  Available in a variety of sizes (baby, twin, full/queen, king) with one side solid and the other a theme of your choice (ranging anywhere from licensed fabric to go with your favorite sports team, to kid-friendly fabric, plaid, etc. - you name it, we will work with you to get the blanket how you like it!) The blanket is extremely warm and comfy, and would make a great gift for practically anyone!  If you'd like me to make a blanket for you, I'll be more then happy to! Simply click here, and select the size/fabric you'd like (remember licensed fabric is slightly more expensive) and I will ship it directly to you! Don't see a fabric option you're crazy about? No problem at all! Message me and I will help you find something closer to what you're looking for!
If however, you'd like to create the blanket yourself, you can follow these 7 simple steps...

DIY No Sew Fleece Blanket

What you will Need:
  • 2 Pieces of Fleece Fabric between 1yd - 3yds depending on the size blanket you'd like (see below)
  • scissors
  • flat surface to work on
Instructions:
1. Decide the size blanket you'd like to make, and pick out the fleece fabric you'd like. You will need 2 pieces of fabric. I recommend a pattern/printed side with a coordinating solid color side (cost effective as well as the solid is generally a little cheaper then the print) or if you'd like you could do both sides the same fabric:
  •      For a baby/toddler size blanket you will need 1yd of each fabric
  •      For a twin size blanket you will need 1.5 yards of each fabric
  •      For a full/queen size blanket you will need 2 yards of each fabric (personally this is the size I prefer it works great on a couch, draped across a bed, etc.)
  •      For a king size blanket you will need 3 yards of each fabric
Things to keep in mind:
  • Unless for a child under 4, or you're specifically wanting a small blanket, I suggest getting at least the 1.5 yards of fabric.  Remember you can always cut it back some later if you want to, but the slits you cut in the side will take from the size of the blanket, so 1yd can quickly end up rather small.)
  • I recommend using Anti Pill fleece .  It will typically run about $1.00 extra per yard however it is a higher quality and will help the blanket to stay looking better longer.
2. Lay out the two pieces of fabric one on top of the other on a flat surface, I recommend using a bed if possible as it is a large flat surface that will help save your back not having to be hunched over.
3. Once you've lined up the two pieces so the edges all match, cut out a square of each corner (size varies depending on the size your making: for baby/toddler size or twin size cut out at 3" square on each corner, for full/queen or king size cut out a 4" square on each side)
4. Cut slits (about 1" width, they don't have to be exact) down one side of the blanket; you want the slits to go in as far as the corner squares you cut. Make sure you're cutting both pieces of fabric at the same time so your slits will line up perfectly.
For example: On a full/queen size blanket you will cut 1" strips that are about 4" long.
5. Tie the end slits (one from the top fabric, one from the bottom) together in a knot, then tie every other pair of strips together.
6. Repeat steps 4-5 for the remaining sides
7. Once all sides have been cut and had every other slit tied together, go back over the blanket and tie the remaining ties.  If you see the fabric pulling significantly in any areas now is the time you can correct this by pulling the ties tighter/looser in different areas.

Be sure to post pictures of any blankets you make along with any tips you find!

Final Days for Holiday Orders!!!

The Holiday Season sure has been a busy one! Our Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales were a great success, and I've been busy painting ever since!

This week I am busy working on...
9 - snowman ornaments (various styles but by far the most popular for this year seems to be the Expectant snowman!)
7 "I teach therefore I drink" wineglasses
Several misc. 'everyday wine glasses'
Along with a few personal projects that I'm hoping make some great Christmas gifts...such fun!!
One of the things I love the most is that of all this weeks orders, only two of the items are the same, all others are customized to include different colors, cute sayings, etc. (at no extra charge of course!) I love that these customers will all have their personal touch included in their purchases - and it keeps the creation of them anything but monotonous! :)

In looking at the calendar this morning, I realized that we're almost to the home stretch of this Holiday shopping season! (only 19days 14hrs & some minutes according to the Christmas Clock!)  Being that all items in my shop are made to order and do take a little bit of time, I realized that I must limit the number of days left for orders to be guaranteed to arrive to you or your loved ones by Christmas! As of today, orders placed by December 11th will be guaranteed to make it to you by Christmas at our normal rate.  Past the 11th purchases will be reviewed on a case by case basis for whether or not an expedited fee may need to be applied to ensure it can make it to you.  So don't wait! Order today! :)
(Also, please keep in mind that depending on current orders this date is subject to change -  I will be sure to update both this blog and my etsy shop should this happen!)

Happy Holidays!!

Buddy the Elf

Our little yearly visitor Buddy the Elf returned a few days ago! Much to our 4 year old son's delight Buddy was hanging upside down from some ribbon with a note and having left a story on his bed (The Elf of the Shelf story of course) for us to read that night :)
Having the calendar I put together a couple weeks ago has been such a help! It's nice not to have to first search for an activity for Buddy and then put it together but rather be able to look up what I have planned and get him all situated in a quick few minutes before heading off to bed!  I did however make a change up for today, since John and I are flying thru our Christmas shopping this year (HOW are there only 21 days left??) we went ahead and had Buddy bring Tanner's list to fill out with his top 3 toys just to make sure Santa isn't forgetting anything ;)  This also worked out well as Buddy needed to be a little more out of reach for a day and nicely remind Tanner that touching him could ruin his powers...Buddy has been veryyy tempting to touch this year!  Here are the pictures of what our Elf has been up to...feel free to share yours!

DIY 2x4 snowmen!

This weekend while visiting my in-laws; my mother in law, sister in law and I decided to take on a cute craft we had seen on Pinterest and make a these adorable snowmen made out of 2x4's to add to our Holiday Decorations! Once obtaining all the supplies they were fairly easy to make (Took probably an hour or two total) and cost less then $5 each!  I love how different each one turned out with us each adding our own touch (mine on the left, my Sister-in-Law Sara Ellen's in the middle and my Mother-in-Law Jan's on the right) and think they look adorable in the house!

Supplies you Need:
2x4 piece of wood - each snowman needs 18" of this wood cut into 3 sections: 4", 6", 8"
Acrylic Paint - white black and orange are a must, add any others you'd like!
Paint brushes - a variety of sizes would be best
Fabric - Flannel or Fleece work best (*to keep cost down I shopped from the scrap fabric where I was able to find about 0.6 yd of both fabric prints shown below for only a few dollars total and we had PLENTY left over)
Ribbon/String - whichever you feel will look best to tie the top of your snowman's hat
Hot Glue Gun **Careful not to burn yourself :)

Additional Supplies you May Want:
Black Buttons
Epsom Salt - to create a snow-like look (seen on the far right snowman)
Cotton Ball
Sticks for Arms
Anything else...be creative! :)

Directions:
Prep-Work
1. Cut the 2x4 into the necessary sections for each snowman (each snow man needs a 4" piece for the head, 6" piece for the mid-section and 8" piece for the base)
2.  Center the 6" piece on top of the 8" piece and glue together (using either hot glue gun or wood glue if you'd like a more secure hold) then do the same with he 4" piece on top of the 6" piece
(*If you glue these with the hot glue gun you're ready to move on as soon as it is dry, if you use the wood glue I advise letting it fully set overnight or however long the bottle suggests*)
Get Creative
3. Paint The entire surface of the wood white,  **important** allow the first coat to dry (or come close to fully dry) and decide if it needs a second coat.  The first coats on ours dried nearly transparent from the wood absorbing so much paint, but by the next coat it was fine.
4. Paint/Glue on your detail **Remember to leave about 2" room from the eyes to the top for where you can glue your snowman's hat, and take into consideration when gluing/painting the mouth and buttons that you will be adding a scarf.
5.  After allowing the paint to dry (time depends on how thick you applied the paint but it shouldn't take too long) you're ready to apply the fabric/finishing touches.
scarf: cut a strip of the fabric at least 18" long (you be the judge of how long you'd like it and how far you'd like the scarf to hang down) wrap the scarf around the 'neck' of the snowman and tie the scarf - use your hot glue gun as necessary to help the fabric stay where you'd like
hat: cut a piece of fabric about 6" wide by 13" long (again use your judgment for if you'd like a taller/shorter hat) Glue the hat first to the front of the snowman, then both sides, and then to cover the back. Use your ribbon/string to tie the top together. **If you feel the hat isn't looking 'full' enough you may choose to stuff it with some fabric scraps, toilet paper, etc.
6. Allow the snowman to fully dry and you're done!

Be sure to share your snowman if you make one!

Happy Holidays!

Additional Instructions if you choose to add the Epsom Salt: It may be easiest to apply this when the paint is wet to help it stick into the paint.  Be sure to let it dry before messing further with the snowman.  If you notice a lot seems to still be falling off you can pray hairspray for a quick fix, or get some clear acrylic spray to help hold it in place. :) A bit more time and work, but a great outcome :)

2x4 snowman would match nicely with the 2x4 Rudolph the Wooden Reindeer available in my shop!  Check him out!

Elf on the Shelf Calendar

Not exactly a craft, but something that will be going on in our house starting pretty soon so I thought I'd share!
This year will be the 3rd year Buddy the Elf (our Elf on the Shelf) has visited our house.  With the stores already setting out their Christmas trees, our 4 year old has already started talking about 'what Buddy will be up to' this year!  Last year it was pretty common for me at 9pm to be looking for some elf ideas, or running to the store to get something to go with his nightly activity - so I figured this year I'd try and map out a plan ahead of time to make it less hassle and more fun :) - I saw a calendar floating around on Pinterest and Facebook, but it had a few we've already done, and some that might just be a little TOO tempting for Tanner to try and touch (because remember, if Buddy the elf gets touched his magical powers are damaged and he can't make it back to the North Pole that night to report to Santa) Most of the time Tanner is on patrol to make sure no one damages Buddy's powers, but every now and then his desire to see Buddy come to life gets the best of him! ;)
So here is the calendar I have set up for the month - of course some may change depending on behavior and such (I do recall last year Buddy having to bring a reminder note that he IS watching for Santa) - but I did my best to keep it items we will have around the house, different from last year, and also to make sure on the weekends when Tanner will be around Buddy a lot, that Buddy and his magical powers will be safely out of reach :)
Feel free to use the calendar if it will make your life easier - I'll be posting pictures of what Buddy is up to throughout the month of December - feel free to post yours here as well!
